Students wishing to apply for Undergraduate or Bachelor’s degree in Germany need to complete thirteen (13) years of education to be eligible to apply for the degree.
International students with a high school degree (12th) do not qualify for a Bachelor’s Degree in Germany.
Hence, a one-year Foundation Course or Studienkolleg as it is popularly called is mandatory for International students.
Admission to Studienkolleg is through Aufnahmeprüfung (exam of Mathematics and German language)

T-Kurs: Mathematics, Science and Technical Degree
W-Kurs: Business, Economics and Social Science Degree
G-Kurs: Humanity and German Studies
S-Kurs: Degree in Languages
After finishing one year of Studienkolleg students must appear for the ‘feststellprüfung (FSP)- Assessment test’ to qualify for Bachelor studies at any university in Germany.
Average of 12th Board percentage (after converting on German scale), FSP and TestAS will quality a student to start Bachelor’s Program
This certificate in recognized by all German Public Universities (TUs) and Universities of Applied Science (Fachhochschule or Hochschule), across Germany. On passing from Studienkolleg, students are guaranteed free admission to a university of applied sciences or TUs of their choice.
The tuition fees for Studienkolleg is about zero (in Public Universities) and aound INR 15 Lakh (in private Universities) includes fee and living expenses.
It is recommended to have IELTS/TOEFL score and German B1/B2 at the time of application to Studienkolleg. Extracurricular activities like sports, drama etc. are much welcomed and given due weightage.
Students wishing to apply to Studienkolleg must apply while in the 11th grade and need not wait till after the results to apply. As entrance for the same starts six months prior to the date of the examination. Though, students wishing to study in Germany do not have to appear for an entrance examination.
